Tonight I am eating my Breyer's Lactose-Free Vanilla Ice Cream along with three homemade wheat-free chocolate chip cookies while I watch The Biggest Loser. The irony is not lost on me.

I've Been Tagged - Blog Tag

This is basically a chain letter via blogs. Oh, Erin, what have you done to me? I hate passing these things along, but even more than that, I hate to lose. I'll show you that I can steal myself away from my precious books! So here we go.

Here's how you play:
1. Post the rules on your blog.
2. Write six random things about yourself.
3. Tag six people at the end of your post.
4. If you are tagged, JUST DO IT, and pass the tag along.

Six random things about me:
1. I DO NOT stop at garage sales
2. I DO NOT like to garden
3. I just took a knitting class and am trying to knit my first scarf. It's a disaster. My stitches are very even and look very nice (even the instructor commented on this), but my scarf is taking on the shape of a triangle. I keep adding stitches, and I don't know enough to know how to fix it.
4. I still have one batch of frozen chocolate chip cookie mix left in my freezer from when I made 9 dozen cookies with my new KitchenAid, and I plan to make some tonight.
5. Hubby started a new job today, and he even got up in the middle of the night with the Little Guy and then got up with him at 5:20a and rocked him back to sleep. He's my hero!
6. Confession - I don't have many friends who blog, so I don't know where I'll come up with the six who will continue this...these chain letters always make me feel like a loser in the friend department.

Here are my three blogging friends:
1. Nicoly (who chooses to remain anonymous, so I can't post a link to her blog.)
2. Courtney - Cottage Mommy (I don't know about Courtney, but I better play it safe and not give a link.)
3. Jana (same deal, not sure on making her blog public)

Go get 'em partners!

My Mom: Before and After

My mother's hair has gotten lighter and lighter over the years. It used to be brown, and now it's red/orange. Living in Hawaii and walking everyday in the sun also contributes to the lighter color. The Asains and Hawaiians she works with in Hawaii LOVE her red hair (we all love what we can't have). But I kept bugging her to get it dyed brown again. So, now that we're visiting our family, my cousin Jackielyn is a licensed cosmotologist, and she died my mom's hair. The above picture is my mom from our visit to Hawaii in June. She has it pulled back, so you can't see the highlights that really want to be orange.
And the after shot:

I LOVE it, and all the women in our family love it. She's received some mixed reviews from others. She knows the Asians at work won't like it. My neice said to my mom, "before I could tell you were a grandma, but now you don't look like a grandma." I think that sums it up. The red was okay, and I will admit, looks pretty good in the before picture (I was nice and chose a good picture), but the chocolate brown color looks so much better, and makes her look younger. My mom has a particular picture of herself with her red hair that really shows why the red had to go, but I don't have access to it right now. Maybe later. What do you think? Do you like the before or after better?

Okay, this before picture is WAY too flattering.

What Have I Been Reading?

I'm too lazy these days too do reviews of each of the books I read, so in short, I'll tell you my opinion of each.

By Debbie Macomber
First Comes Marriage – cute, short read
Here Comes Trouble – cute, short read
Rainy Day Kisses – very cute, short read
Morning Comes Softly – loved it!
Country Brides – this is two books in one, and the first book was enjoyable, the second was a little … old…arduous….

By Suzanne Brockmann
Into the Fire – a great read, but I felt like Brockmann tried to put one too many story lines into this one book. The storyline of Izzy was left hanging.

By Susan Mallery
Accidentally Yours – a deliciously good read

By Susan Wiggs
Just Breathe – a great novel covering the emotions and different stages of a woman going through divorce and finding love again.

Gone With the Wind

I've finally watched this classic movie. After seeing it mentioned in so many books I thought I should finally watch it. I have to say I was disappointed. I'm totally not a movie critic and I haven't seen a wide variety of movies, but, in my humble opinion, I didn't like the main characters. I thought Scarlett was a selfish, cold-hearted fool, and I thought Rhett was cavalier and unforgiving. When the main characters are so ridiculous, why do I care what happens to them? Also, the story took such a weird turn at the end with Rhett's threat on Scarlett's life, and then all the death: Scarlett's unborn baby, her little girl, Melanie...depressing. I guess I'm a romantic at heart and want all stories to end with a happy ending. At least I can say I've watched it now.

While making my 9 dozen cookies, and using my KitchenAid for the first time, I learned what the splatter guard is for. I don't think I need to explain any further.

On another note, I was truly impressed at the KitchenAid's mixing ability - I love it!

My beautiful mixer! I'm so sorry baby. I'll clean you up and take real good care of you from now on.

My New Purple KitchenAid

My wonderful hubby got me a Dark Plum KitchenAid mixer for my birthday! I love it! I'm in love with the color and plan to keep it out on my counter as part of my purple and green kitchen motif. This purple mixer is hard to find and hubby commented that it must be the last one in the country. I couldn't even find it on KitchenAid's web site. Thank you hubby! Now I'm off to bake you 9 dozen cookies!

Dancing With the Stars

I'm so excited for this upcoming season! Misty May-Treanor, gold-winning beach volleyball champ at the Olympics is in it. I really like beach volleyball, and very much enjoyed watching Misty May and Kerry Walsh. Misty is very spunky, and proved so when after bumping some balls with President Bush, presented her butt to him and asked if he wanted to slap her backside as is very common in beach volleyball. (See the link for the full story and picture.)

I'm bummed at her partnering with Maksim - he is not my favorite dancer. I hope she goes far!

Where Have I Been?

I don't know...I got stuck reading those two awful Dee Henderson books and had to immerse myself in a stack of Debbie Macomber novels, which have been wonderfully redemptive. (I'll tell you about those later). Also, with my delicate condition...I've been a little tired. I haven't been cooking dinners really, and when I do, it's nothing new... so no new pictures and recipes. Just nothing new going on. I hope you have Google Reader so you don't have to check my blog everyday and see that I haven't posted. Google Reader tells you when there's been a new post to a blog. Try it out!
