Let it Now

My son helped me wrap this package for Daddy. Normally I take care as to what the front of the package looks like, obviously not this time!

Boots

My Mommy got me these fun boots for Christmas. Since she is in Thailand, she had them shipped directly to my house and I opened them early, since they are too wonderful to leave in the box until Christmas.
Now that I have really cool boots and they are in a color other than black *gasp* I'm not sure the rest of my clothing repertoire is cool enough.
My boots with my new skinny jeans, which aren't too skinny around my knees. This looks messy to me.

With my boot cut jeans, which are a titch too long for me. But I'm too tall for the short jeans. What's a 5 foot 4 and half inch girl to do?

These are my Macy's-half-price-the-day-before-Thanksgiving boots. That was a great deal! I also wear these with the "skinny" jeans.

Book Review: The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

I have not seen the movie, but now that I have read the book, I can't wait to see it. I very much enjoyed the book, and I hope the movie can live up to my expectations. Has anyone seen it?

Whenever time travel is involved in a book or movie, I have lots of discussions with my hubby as to how it all works. I keep coming back to the same bottom line: time travel isn't possible. Niffenegger takes her own liberties in defining her time travel world, and I think it works.

I really loved the characters of Claire and Henry, and even though I new he would die in the end (that's not really a spoiler, is it? Doesn't everyone eventually die?) I still enjoyed the book. Definitely go read it!

Where Have I Been?

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted on this blog. My little girl can reach the keys on the laptop now, so I have very little time to type on the computer. Plus, my sweet babies wake up at 5am, if I'm lucky, so I have to go to bed early too! But I have still been reading. Debbie Macomber has reissued a lot of her older works, and I have read all of those. It's interesting to see how an author has changed over the course of her career. Macomber has written TONS of books, and most of them are good and some are pretty good.

I want to get back into doing my book "reviews" (really just my simple opinion of a book), more as a way for me to keep track of what I've read. But, I think I will only review new books - we don't need a review of something Debbie Macomber wrote in 1995.

I haven't been taking as many pictures of food, for several reasons. One, I'm a creature of habit and I make the same things over and over, so usually, I've already taken a picture of whatever I'm currently making. Two, my kids have been giving me a run for my money, and I think to myself, why would I want to record this time in my life by taking a picture? But I'm really trying to get over that, because I can never get today back and take a picture of what my baby looks like.

So, here we go!

Biggest Loser 10-13-09

I was a little surprised to see Grandma Liz turn so vengeful, but I certainly understand her feelings for Tracey. I was shocked that she vowed through the whole show that she was going to vote Tracey off, and instead, she voted Coach Mo off. That's a hard one, Coach was injured and asked to go home, and Tracey is pulling big numbers - which just goes to show that you don't need to have fancy trainers and work out six hours a day to loose weight. Tracey is loosing weight by simply changing her eating habits! That is pretty weird how she keeps winning the temptations!

Dancing With the Stars Results Show 10-13-09

Okay, yesterday, I said Louie the snowboarder was one of my favorites before I actually saw him dance his Country Two-Step. I'm sorry, Louie, but it didn't even look like you were trying! He was just walking around the stage. Too bad - but he has another week! I wanted the football player to do better, but I guess it just wasn't in him, so that's the last we'll see of him.

Dancing With the Stars - My Favorites

Holy Smokes! Derrik's and the Swimsuit Model's Lambada was...raunchy! Holy Moly. Anyways, my favorites are Natalie, the swimmer, Mark, the Iron Chef, and Louie the snowboarder.

So Much TV, So Little Time

Wow! I went a whole month without posting. I felt the need to post something now because I have an announcement: I think I'm over my romance novel phase. *collective gasp* Can it be a phase if it lasted for two and a half years? I knew it was over when I couldn't bring myself to finish the last two Debbie Macomber novels I was trying to read - the second and third books in her Midnight Sons trilogy from the 90s - too saccharine with no conflict = boring. (Sorry Debbie, but you're still one of my favorite authors.)

So now that I'm not devoting my time to reading romance novels, what have I been doing? Well, September brought a lot of good TV to watch. Let's start with Monday night. I didn't think I would like Dancing With the Stars this season since I didn't recognize a single person, but I'm finding it rather entertaining. Also, my husband's witty comments while he pretends not to watch crack me up. My favorites are Louie the snowboarder and the Iron Chef (although I really want him to perform better, and he's just not bringing it).

Then there's Tuesday, and my DVR cannot keep up! We watch Biggest Loser, after we play 40 minutes of MarioKart, so we can skip the commercials. Then I have Hell's Kitchen recording, and the next day, I watch the Dancing with the Stars Results Show online.

Wednesday night we watch So You Think You Can Dance, and that show will soon be airing twice a week (actually, it already did this week). I REALLY liked that Krumper with the dreads and the dance he did with the Russian immigrant during Vegas week.

Thursday nights, I've started watching Survivor, because my husband is gone to Bible study, and I can't watch one of our shows that we watch together until he gets home. I'm not the biggest fan of Survivor, but it's nice to have on while I fold socks. All that whispering and game plotting gets annoying. Then, the biggest surprise of all - I've started watching Glee, and it is HILARIOUS! I love it! Also on Thursday nights we DVR Flashforward, which I've decided I can only watch during the day or else it creeps me out.

Friday October 16 brings the season premier of Ugly Betty, another one of my favorites. Can't wait!

I'm so glad to have DVR, I'm saving 20 minutes of my life per hour of show! What are you guys watching?

Whale Bracelet from Cambodia

My mother flew in all the way from Thailand and she brought presents! This silver whale bracelet is one of them. She bough it from a silver shop when she was visiting Cambodia. I asked if it was from a sweat shop, and she assured me that no it wasn't. I love this bracelet and wear it every day now. Thanks Mommy!

Chocolate Zucchini Bread

My neighbor left three HUGE zucchinis on my doorstep the other day. This is great because I've been eating a zucchini every day as part of my breakfast, but this much was too much for breakfast. I embarked on my first zucchini bread experience. And of course, it had to be chocolate zucchini bread! The recipe is from Pioneer Woman's Tasty Kitchen website. It is really tasty and rich. I love it! My version is wheat-free of course.
Here's the biggest zucchini. This one alone made enough for a double batch of the bread, and I froze enough for three more double batches. I'm set for the year (or at least the next four weeks).

Who Did Jillian Choose? The Bachelorette Recap 7-29-09

Does anyone think that Ed slightly resembles Jason Mesnick from The Bachelor? I’ve never thought that before, but a couple of the shots at the beginning of the episode made him look like Jason.

Jillian is on the Big Island of Hawaii and Ed and Kiptyn get to meet her family. Ed reassures Jillian that it was just stress that caused him to not perform at the fantasy suite on their previous date.

When Ed meets Jillian’s family, he explains how he was married to his job and ending up leaving the show. Jillian’s mom asks Ed 66 questions and Ed answers the questions well. What I like about Ed is that he is so open and honest about his feelings for Jillian. With Reid, he just couldn’t share his feelings, and Kiptyn is not quite ready for marriage. Jillian’s mom noticed that Jillian was really relaxed and had a glow about her while talking about Ed.

Next Kiptyn gets to meet Jillian’s family, but first, Jillian got her smooch time in with him. She REALLY likes to make out with him! How hard for Ed to see! (Spoiler, sorry!). It still seems so weird to me as to how she can be in love with and kissing two different guys. How can she choose one guy and then not be thinking about the other one? Especially when she LOVES kissing Kiptyn. Yeah, I just don’t get it. How can she feel strong enough to marry one guy and then the next day make out with someone else?

Anyways, back to the show. Jillian’s dad asks Kiptyn if he’s in love with her, and Kiptyn says he’s getting there a lot faster than he thought he would. Jillian’s family notes that Kiptyn and Jillian have a similar energy. Kiptyn shares with the producers that during this date he realized he is in love with Jillian.

Jillian’s dad points out that Ed told him that he loves Jillian, but he had to ask Kiptyn if he loves Jillian.

Jillian has one last date with Ed where they take a helicopter ride to a secluded waterfall. The chemistry is hot between them, and Ed showers Jillian with affection – that’s pretty hard to resist. Ed invites Jillian back to his hotel for the night where he shares that he would like to be with her forever. Looks like they had the kind of night they both wanted.

Next, Jillian has her last date with Kiptyn. He is finally ready to tell Jillian that he loves her and wants to propose. She looks a little reserved when he finally tells her this. I wonder if she knew at this point who she would choose.

Thank you, Producers, for putting in lots of shots of Kiptyn’s washboard abs!

Proposal Day! Kiptyn arrives first, declares his feelings for Jillian, but she tells him she is in love with someone else. Poor Kiptyn! He finally comes to terms with how he feels, and he gets the boot. He really is a nice guy. He admits that this is the first time he’s had his heart broken.

But, we can’t just leave it at that. Reid shows up before Ed shows up. I must say that he looks really sloppy – shirt tucked out, sneakers; sports coat; totally underdressed compared to Kiptyn and Ed, and he plans to propose! What a dork. He says he came back to tell Jillian that he’s an idiot and that he loves her. Nice. Too little, too late, Reid! Oh man, I feel really embarrassed for him. AHHHH! He gets down on one knee to propose! She’s obviously not feeling it and he’s just not getting it. It’s all about him and how he feels. Jillian has him stand back up and tells him she needs time. Chris Harrison, the host, talks with Jillian and encourages her to go with her heart, which is with Ed.

Ed’s speech to Jillian as he proposes is really sweet. But before he proposes, he says he needs to know if she is in love with him too, and of course she says yes she does! Ed proposes and Jillian says yes. They really are cute together and really do seem to be in love. I really hope it works out for them! And to think that he left the show! I bet they are both glad he came back!

Soy Citrus Sea Scallops

This recipe for Soy Citrus Sea Scallops with Soba Noodles is from Cooking Light. Although, I made mine with Pad Thai rice noodles since I'm allergic to wheat. My husband who typically doesn't prefer the Asain flavors like this meal (I made his with spaghetti noodles).
I'm having a hard time getting the kind of picture I want of my meals because I'm always in a hurry to eat it. It's not cool to make the family wait for dinner while I snap pictures.

The Bachelorette Recap 7-20-09

Tonight’s episode of The Bachelorette is The Men Tell All. Jillian admits that she knows now that Wes was on the show for the sole purpose of selling his CD.

We get to see extra footage, including Ed drunk at the rose ceremony in Vancouver. Jillian, always one to make the best of things, thinks Ed was cute while drunk. We got to see trying to hula dance with Jillian in Hawaii, but then again, since he couldn’t dance, she said it won him over (but obviously not for too long since she let him go the next night).

Jason and Molly from last season’s The Bachelor visit with Chris. Jason says he’s really in love with Molly. Molly, with brown hair now, is still living in Wisconsin, but she gets to see Jason about every other weekend. Jason and Molly say they will for sure get married, but the immediate next step is for Molly to move to Seattle. Jason says that since the show he has started a website called Jasonsplace.com that helps single parents. Chris shared that Melissa is engaged (her fiancee’s name is Tye - I follow her on Twitter). I think it’s unfortunate how things went down with Melissa, but it’s easier to be happy for Jason and Melissa seeing that they are happy together and that Melissa is happy and successful as well.

Next, Chris talks with the memorable guys, minus Wes (of course) and Reid who had a prior engagement. The guys tattle on each other. We learn that all the other guys thought Jake was too straight-laced and that Robby always has to have a drink. The guys really give Jake a hard time. He took it well, even telling Sasha to “Fuck you,” to prove his not-perfectness. Oh…I think it’s just Jillian and the guys who don’t like Jake. I like him!

David explains that Juan’s tendency to act different in front of the cameras and Jillian than he did with the other guys is the basis for his hatred of Juan. The guys continue in a lot of girly-like banter.

One of the audience members asks Jake if he would be willing to be the next Bachelor and Jake says that he’s not quite ready to make that decision, but it would be an honor. Jake also admits that he will always have feelings for Jillian. About half the guys disagree with the fact that Jake told Jillian about Wes’ girlfriend. It’s obvious that the audience disagrees and supports Jake’s decision.

We see a recap of Kiptyn and Ed, the last two men. Can't wait for the finale next week!

I Got to Meet Author Linda Nichols

Local author, Linda Nichols, spoke at my church today. She is the author of The Handyman (movie rights purchased by Steven Spielberg) and several Christian fiction books. I have read The Handyman, which was a really cute romance, and am now reading In Search of Eden, one of her Christian fiction books. I got to hear Linda's personal story, which is quite interesting. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Several of my favorite authors live within a couple hours of me (Debbie Macomber, Susan Wiggs, and Karen Kingsbury). I think I might make it a goal to meet all of them. Debbie Macomber is having Cedar Cove Days in Port Orchard, Washington (the town she based her Cedar Cove series on). I'm trying to decide whether it's worth dragging my kids there or not. My little girl is nursing and won't take a bottle yet, so I feel like I'm chained to her. We'll see!

The Bachelorette Recap 7-13-09

Three guys left and Jillian takes them to Maui, Hawaii (cue shots of Jillian in a skimpy bikini…ugg). Jillian will have a second chance at using the fantasy suite with each of the guys – think she’ll go for it?

The first date is with Kiptyn. Jillian takes him on a ropes course to see how Kiptyn does in a tough/team work situation. Kiptyn performed well with the right amount of humor and chivalry.

Jillian admits she is crazy about Kiptyn, but there’s a part of her that is still unsure about him. Jillian opens up to Kiptyn and admits that she trusts him more than any of the other guys, but she’s scared that if she falls in love with him, that later he might break her heart. Despite this, Jillian decides that she needs the time with him in the fantasy suite.

Jillian’s second date is with Reid. Her one concern with Reid is that he doesn’t communicate how he feels. She and Reid take a helicopter ride above Maui where the pilot shares that he is an ordained minister and that he could marry them right there. Reid was freaked out. They share a lunch on the beach afterwards and Jillian warns him that she wants to talk about the hard things at dinner later that night. Reid just fumbles and can’t get any words out. When Jillian brings out the fantasy suite card, Reid admits he’s scared because he was denied in Spain. He can’t even say to Jillian that he wants to spend the night with her! It’s Jillian who suggests that they take the offer of the fantasy suite. I feel like Jillian is a parent trying to get her child (Reid) to do something new (communicate). Reid is making me nuts!

Jillian’s third date is with Ed. They take a catamaran ride and swim in the ocean. Jillian admits that she just wants to wrap her legs around Ed and kiss him. Ed shares with Jillian that he’s flown his parents to Maui so they can meet Jillian. Ed’s dad is brought to tears when he talks with Jillian and tells her that he can see Ed has feelings for her.

While walking on the beach, Jillian brings out the fantasy suite card and they decide to spend the night together. Ed is the only one who has told Jillian that he is falling in love with her. Even though Ed and Jillian are really attracted to each other, they didn't get it on. Jillian shares that she doesn’t know if it was exhaustion from being in the sun all day, but even though she feels like a friendship love was there, she didn’t feel a romantic love with him. Ed shares that he was really nervous and is disappointed that he couldn’t show Jillian how he feels about her. I think they just weren’t feeling it, but the producers do show Ed practically asleep when Jillian was massaging him…oh Jillian. You have Kiptyn who is the perfect package, but isn’t ready to commit. You have Reid who you share an attraction with, but he won’t use his words to tell you so. And you have Ed who can tell you he loves you, but can’t physically show it. I still think that none of the guys left are right for Jillian.

Before the rose ceremony, as Jillian watches the guys’ video messages to her, Kiptyn and Reid say they would like to continue things with her, but Ed is the only one who declares that he loves her.

Jillian starts out the rose ceremony by declaring that she is falling in love with all of them. Needless to say, the guys don’t look too pleased to hear that. Jillian chooses to send Reid home, which I think is a good, but hard decision. How can Jillian be with someone who won’t say how he feels about her? If the only thing that worries Jillian about Ed is their lack of physical romance in the fantasy suite, I think she is wise to give him another shot.

Reid admits in the car on the way home that the reason he was sent home is his fault. He admits to the producers that he was falling in love with her, and says that Jillian doesn’t even know that. Too little, too late, Reid!

Next week’s After the Rose Ceremony will show news of Molly and Jason; looks like they’re still together. Then in two weeks, we’ll get to see who proposes to Jillian!

The Bachelorette Recap 7-6-09

Jillian takes the final four bachelors to Madrid, Spain. Jillian shares that she thought by this point there would be a front-runner by now, but there isn’t. I honestly can see any of the guys left being her soul mate. We’ll see!

Jillian’s first date is with Kiptyn. Now Jillian is worried that Kiptyn is too perfect. Ugg. First Jake, now Kiptyn. Kiptyn told Jillian that he thinks a proposal is far off. This worries Jillian, of course. After walking around Madrid, Jillian and Kiptyn learn to dance Flamenco. Jillian really liked how Kiptyn looked in his tight pants (who didn’t?).

Anyone notice that Jillian wears a lot of yellow? It must be her favorite color.

Jillian and Kiptyn ride a moped to their dinner date where Jillian grills Kiptyn with some hard questions. She likes his answers. Now, I haven’t been watching The Bachelor/Bachlelorette shows since the inception, but this is the first time I’ve seen someone reject the Fantasy Suite card. And Jillian is the one who rejected it! She said she wasn’t ready to spend the night with him yet. They do go to the Fantasy Suite to cuddle. Jillian wants to know that Kiptyn is crazy about her and can’t live without her before she spends the night with him. I’m proud of Jillian’s decision and I’m pleased with Kiptyn’s gracious response as well.

Reid is Jillian’s second date and they have fun purchasing food for a picnic in Sevilla, Spain. Jillian really pushes Reid; she wants specifics as to exactly how he feels about her. Again, Jillian rejects the Fantasy Suite and Reid thinks it’s a smart move on her part, but of course, he’s bummed. I think Reid and Jillian are really cute together.

The next date is in Sevilla, Spain with Ed who has a lot to make up for. Ed shares that he couldn’t get Jillian off his mind when he went back home, so he made the decision to come back. Jillian shares that she knows that she needs to make sure Ed is the right one for her, but she admits that she just want to make out with him. When the Fantasy Suite card comes, Jillian shares that she is super-protective of herself since Ed has broken her heart before. Ed doesn’t take this news as well as the previous two guys. Jillian shares that she doesn’t feel emotionally ready to spend the night with any of the guys yet. Three cheers for Jillian!

Jillian’s fourth date is in Barcelona, Spain with Wes. Wes and Jillian ride bikes around the parks in Barcelona. Jillian shares that she is worried about Wes’ lack of affection. Jillian notices that while Wes says he likes her, he was physically far away from her. Wes evades Jillian’s questions and Jillian says she’ll try asking him the tough questions again at dinner. Jillian confronts the girlfriend issue and Wes’ motives for being on the show. Wes still claims he doesn’t have a girlfriend and that yes, his manager told him to go on the show. Wes thinks that any publicity will be good publicity – he got that wrong! Jillian continues to confront him, and Wes admits that “numero uno is most important.” I think that statement really does describe Wes really well. He looks out for himself. Jillian is shocked that Wes has just said that. Jillian confronts him again about the girlfriend issue, and Wes accidentally refers to Laurel as his “girlfriend, … I mean ex-girlfriend.” He realizes his blunder and stops right there. I think by this point Jillian has finally seen the light! The producers choose this point to deliver the Fantasy Suite card. Wes is all for the Fanatasy Suite (unbelievable!). It has become clear to Jillian that Wes has something to hide, and she accepts the fact that Wes has a girlfriend back home. Jillian feels embarrassed, but also sorry for Wes.

Jillian looked really good in that black dress at the rose ceremony!

Wes is SO disgusting. Right before Jillian walks into the rose ceremony, Wes says, “If it’s me, just know I’ll be back home having lots of sex.” Seriously? No one is going to buy your album Wes; you are so disgusting!! The other three guys are disgusted as well. Of course, Jillian chooses to send Wes home – finally!

In the limo on the way home, Wes shares that his acting days are over. He has a drink, congratulating himself on being the first guy to make it to the top four with a girlfriend. What kind of girl is at home waiting for him? Eww. Wes makes it clear that he’s going out on the town tonight. He’s so gross and disgusting, I can’t even waste more words on him. The end.

I think my new favorite is Reid. I can’t wait to see how it ends!

Fourth of July Treats

I made Bakerella's Cupcake Pops and Cupcake Bites (the same thing, but without the lollypop stick). These were fun and really tasty. I recommend not trying to make them into the cupcake shape, but just leaving them in a round shape.

Here's my display of the Cupcake Pops.

I made TWO New York Cheesecakes from the Cooking Light magazine. The fat and calories are greatly reduced, but it did not pass my hubby's taste test.

This is the strawberry sauce I made from the strawberries we picked at the strawberry patch last week. It's really sweet and therefore, really good.

Pad Thai or Some Asain Noodle Thing

When my mom came to help with my new little baby this last March, she made us homemade Pad Thai. Tonight for dinner, Hubby said he wasn't hungry (do to eating out at lunch), so I made something only I would eat. I was really craving Pad Thai, and not knowing what my mom put in it, but just having some of the bottles of stuff left in my cabinet, I went to work. I used rice noodles, chicken, zucchini (just because I'm on a zucchini kick), green onions, oyster sauce and rice vinegar. I don't think this is technically Pad Thai, but whatever. It was good!

Photography note - check out the reflection of the tree in the white of the bowl. I had to stand by the window to get enough natural light at the photo.

The Bachelorette Recap 6-29-09

This is the week of the hometown visits on The Bachelorette. Jillian will be visiting the homes of 5 guys. First off, we have Reid in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Reid showed Jillian around town, then they went to meet the family. Jillian really liked Reid’s mother. Reid admits to his father that Jillian is a girl he could fall in love with. Reid’s family said they are not used to seeing Reid being so affectionate. Jillian said she really fell hard for Reid on this visit.

Next, Jillian visited Michael’s hometown of Astoria, New York. She gets to meet Michael’s identical twin brother and his parents. Michael and his brother tried to pull the old twin switch-a-roo on Jillian, and she knew right away. Good job, Jill! Jillian admitted that Michael’s age really bothers her, but after talking to his twin, he put her fears aside. Poor Jillian, it sounds like she had a really bad cold for this visit.

Jillian visits Kiptyn in San Diego, California next. His parents live in a huge house with great views. Jillian feels a little intimidated and said this might be the first family she doesn’t fit in with. However, Kiptyn’s parents put her at ease once they show her their hot tub which they’ve cordoned off with police tap (in reference to her steamy hot tub scene with Jason from The Bachelor). Kiptyn’s mom was the first of the family’s to really grill Jillian. Jillian and Kiptyn sneak past the police tape and take a dip in the hot tub.

Next Jillian visits Jesse in Carmel Valley, California at his family’s winery.

Jesse’s brother grills Jillian and asks her if he and Jesse have been naked together. Jillian quickly answers, “No! No…that doesn’t come till later.” Jillian really got along well with Jesse’s family, and Jillian really likes the idea of running a winery.

The final hometown date is in Austin, Texas with Wes, scumbag of the century. Jillian feels like one of them is holding something back, but she doesn’t know who and she doesn’t know what and she hopes to find that out on this trip. We know from the previews that Jake, the pilot comes back to tell her that Wes has a girlfriend and is only on the show to further his musical career. It’s about time she finally got a clue the poor thing! Wes, of course, has his band play for Jillian. He shares with the producers that his ultimate goal is to help his new CD do well. Poor Jillian thinks he’s doing this all for her. Wes admits that he loves to be on the stage and no feeling can compare. Wes flat out tells Jillian that he is on the show for her, and that he’s not a good liar. He’s totally lying to her!!! Make me sick!

Enter, Jake the hot pilot. He says he’s not coming back to change Jillian’s mind about him, but to warn her about Wes. He’s says it’s not fair that Wes is playing with Jillian’s heart, and he’s going to stop him. Go Jake! When he meets with Jillian, he has a hard time spitting it out, but he finally tells Jake that Wes has a girlfriend named Laurel. Jake said that Wes spoke of Laurel, his girlfriend, three separate times. Jillian is very saddened and humiliated. Jake warns Jillian that when confronted, Wes will deny it and that he’s very quick on his feet.

When Jillian confronts Wes, she gives him an opportunity to share anything he might want to share. He doesn’t admit anything and when Jillian says Jake came and told her that Wes had a girlfriend. Wes said that that is crazy and tries to backpedal, but Jillian’s not buying it. Wes is so sick! He keeps reiterating how honest he’s being and says he’s not a good liar. Jillian has Jake come up to the room. He and Wes bicker; Wes will not admit that he told Jake he has a girlfriend, and Jake claims Wes told him just that. Jillian has Jake leave so she can sort out what she wants to do from here. Jake is in tears over the situation. He really cares for Jillian and does not want to see her hurt. Oh man, he would make a good candidate for The Bachelor!! He’s hot, nice, and stands up for what he believes in. Plus, he looks hot in his pilot’s uniform.

Jillian agrees to go ahead with the visit to the family. Wes’ family assures Jillian that Wes is truthful and a one-woman man. Oh man! Jillian still likes him!

When Jillian is back in L.A., she gets a visit from Ed, who voluntarily left the show. He says he wants a second chance. Jillian is really thrown for a loop. She says that Ed can come to the rose ceremony where she’ll decide.

Jillian gives Ed a rose!! I am so shocked! I am also disgusted because she chose Wes over Jesse. Jesse is going home and so is Michael. Jesse was my favorite of the guys left on the show. Jesse hugs Jillian but doesn’t say anything to her. He is very hurt. Michael is very hurt as well. I guess my next favorite is Kiptyn. Next week, Jillian takes the final four to Spain.

Strawberry Picking

My Little Guy loves to pick my strawberries at home and he often picks the green ones (the stinker), so I thought it would be a good idea to take him to a strawberry patch where he could pick strawberries to his heart's delight. Here's the fruit of our labors.
I made a dairy-free strawberry and chocolate "milk" shake. It was DELICIOUS! (And no, I didn't count the Weight Watchers POINTS.)

The strawberries needed to be used right away, so I used a lot of them to make a double batch of strawberry sauce. I will use some of the sauce for a topping of the cheesecake I'm going to make for Fourth of July. This strawberry sauce was simple:

Boil 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water for 12 minutes. Then add 2 cups crushed strawberries and boil for one minute. Chill.

Chicken Fajita Lettuce Wraps

My neighbor brought over a bunch of lettuce from her garden, so I decided to use the large leaves as wraps for my chicken fajitas. They were good!

The Bachelorette Recap 6-22-09

Eight guys are left in this, the sixth episode of The Bachelorette. They guys get to join Jillian Harris on a private train ride across British Columbia and Alberta. The five guys left at the end of this episode get to take Jillian to their hometowns.

Robby, the bartender gets the first one-on-one date, which will take place on the train. Jillian says that being around Robby makes her feel 5-10 years younger. Robby shares that he’s ready to settle down, even though he’s only 25 and in between jobs. Jillian worries that he doesn’t know how he’s going to pay the bills and where he’s going to be. This leads Jillian to tell Robby that she feels like he is someone she could marry…five or ten years from now. The train stops and lets Robby off in the middle of the Canadian wilderness. Bye Robby. I think Jillian made a good decision. She even mentioned that he should maybe go to Bartending School, to which he replied, “I don’t know.” So, he’s calling himself a bartender, but he’s not even licensed? This kid is really nice, but he needs to get his act together concerning his occupation.

Wes, the country music singer, admits to the producers, “If there is anyone here for a hidden agenda it probably is me. Because I’ve worked for over a year on an album…I have nothing to lose. I have everything to gain.” What a conniving snake! Jillian, when will you see him for what he is? After sending Robby home, Jillian was resting in her train car, and Wes went in to play his game and “comfort” her. Jillian shares that she thought letting guys go would be easier, because she expected more jerks. Wes smiles to himself and tells her she needs to wait and see – there are a couple of jerks left. Wes admits to the producers, “The fame that I get from this, it’s almost like I taste it and I eat it… It becomes a part of me. There’s no doubt this will help me. I’m getting excited. This is fun… I’ll always have Jillian wrapped around my little finger.” This guy is unbelievable! Who wants to buy the music of a self-professed liar and con artist? He truly is disgusting.

The next morning, Jillian reveals that everyone but Reid, the realtor, gets a group date. They get to go snowshoeing at Emerald Lake, British Columbia. Jillian decides to play hide and seek, and Jake, the pilot (my favorite) finds her first and gets in a little cuddle time. Oh, I wish she’d pick him, but I have a feeling she won’t. Ugg.

Poor Reid is stuck on the train by himself while the other guys are on the group date. He starts chatting with the train staff and gets advice on sharing his feelings with Jillian and whether or not to wear his glasses on the date.

At the end of the group date, they have a cocktail party at a cozy lodge, and Jillian calls Jake aside. Jake shares that he would love to take her home to meet his family. Just as Jake is about to tell Jillian how he feels about her, some of the other guys come and interrupt them. Bummer!

Next, Kiptyn spends one-on-one time with Jillian. He shares outright that he likes Jillian. Kiptyn also gets his kissing time in with Jillian. That girl likes to smooch with him!

Michael, the break dance instructor decides to mix things up and in front of everyone, asks Jillian what she sleeps in. She says for everyday, just underwear and a tank top, but if she’s had a couple drinks, just underwear. Tanner P decides that it would be a good time to show Jillian what he wears, and pulls down his pants to show off his briefs. I think Tanner P just earned a “too tacky” point. Jillian shares that it was funny, yet awkward, and she’s not ready to see anyone’s package yet, even though it was huge (her words, not mine).

Tanner P spends one-on-one time with Jillian and rubs her feet. He says that because her feet are so soft, he wants to take her home to meet his family. *Sigh*…he’s just so childish and shallow. I believe there is a right girl out there for him, but it’s not Jillian.

Has anyone else noticed that most of the guys left are from Texas?

Jesse (not from Texas) shares how he feels about Jillian and how he knows his family will fall in love with her, and Jillian reaches out to kiss him. She hardly ever initiates the kisses with the guys, so I took this as a good sign. Jesse is my second favorite.

Tanner P admits to the other guys that he was the one who told Jillian about the fact that one of the guys has a girlfriend. Wes says that he can’t stand a tattle tail. Who is he to get in a tizzy because someone told? He’s a liar! Jake says that if he knew specifically who had a girlfriend, he would point that person out. Jesse says that if he knew, he wouldn’t tell because it’s not his business. Wes admits to the other guys that he’s already been on 6 shows and that’s good for publicity, and now he can “haul ass.”

At the end of the group date, Kiptyn gets the rose. Jake gets more one-on-one time with Jillian and tells her that he’s crazy about her. He tells the producers that he would love to marry her.

Reid and Jillian go snowboarding for their one-on-one date. When they warm up back at the hotel, they have meat fondue and Reid shares that that freaks him out because of the germs. Jillian is glad Reid feels comfortable enough to share who he really is.

The train ride ends in Banff, Alberta. Chris, the host, prompts Jillian to talk about Wes and whether or not she thinks he is here for his career. Jillian shares that she was worried about that at first, but she feels they really have a connection and she doesn’t think he knows how to lie. She knows he truly cares about her. Oh, Jillian, if you could only see!

Totally unexpected – Jillian did NOT give Jake a rose. That makes me SO sad. Tanner P also didn’t get a rose. I’m so sad for Jake. Jillian doesn’t really give Jillian a reason why she didn’t choose him.

The promos show that Jake goes back to tell Jillian that Wes has a girlfriend and hints that he is back in the show. Can’t wait to see!

Pike Place Market

We took the kiddos to the Pike Place Market and to the Seattle Aquarium today. It was hard wielding the stroller with my Baby Girl and having my Little Guy walking, but it was worth it. After the aquarium, we had lunch at the restaurant in the bottom right picture, The Fishermans Restaurant and Bar. It was really nice to sit down, and we got a table right by the window so we could look out at the water and watch the boats. The food was excellent! After the restaurant we braved the market; all in all, a fun day!

Grilled Salmon and Spinach Salad

I made this delicious dinner from the July issue of Cooking Light magazine. I was a little worried about serving it to my husband because it has fruit in it, and there are no starches, but it was delicious and my picky husband really enjoyed it. I will definitely make it again. This was my first time grilling fish on the BBQ, and it was quite easy and turned out! I'm so happy!

Recipe from Cooking Light magazine.

The Bachelorette Recap 6-15-09

On the fourth episode of The Bachelorette, Jillian and the remaining 10 guys spend the week at a ski resort in Whistler, BC. The first date is one-on-one with Michael, the break dance instructor (pictured). For the adventure part of the date, they each zip down a line strung across an icy creek. Michael has been infatuated with Jillian since the beginning. Michael is like a puppy and is in “puppy love” with Jillian. Jillian says she feels like a little kid when she’s with him, which she likes. But, Jillian wants to see if he’s looking for a partner for life. Back at the resort, the guys find out who is one the group date. Everyone but Jesse is on the group date, which leaves him with the other one-on-one date. The guys continue the conversation about who and who doesn’t have a girlfriend back home.

Jillian and Michael finish the date with dinner at a fancy bistro. Michael tells Jillian that he falls in love in easy and that he is a romantic. Jillian brings out the tough questions and asks Michael why he signed up for The Bachelorette. He assures Jillian that he is here for the right reasons, and he gets the rose.

One the group date, the guys and Jillian go snowmobiling. Jillian is scrutinizing every guy to see why they are on the show. Jillian chooses Robby the bartender to ride on the snowmobile with her. Robby is very sincere and genuine and passes Jillian’s radar. She doesn’t think he is the one with another girlfriend.

Tanner P, the one who told Jillian about the fact that one of the guys has a girlfriend on the last episode, seeks out Jillian to talk with her about the girlfriend issue. He still doesn’t tell her any names.

The producers always show Wes, the country music singer when anybody talks about the fact that one of the guys has a girlfriend back home, and if that’s true, he’s really fooling Jillian. Jillian is falling under Wes’ spell. Jillian asks Wes if he’s on the show to further his career, and he doesn’t flat out say no. He hedges about and says some things that sound nice, but he never said no. After spending time with Wes during the date, Jillian declared, “I love Wes. I love that he’s kind of bad ass and sweet.” She said that if he had a girlfriend, she would know. Later, Wes admits to the producers that there’s no doubt that being on the show will help his publicity.

The group date ends with an ice bar at the lodge. Jillian pulls Kiptyn, the business developer (pictured) aside and invites him to feel her butt (it was wet from sitting on the ice). In a cute and vulnerable moment, Jillian blurts out, “I like you.” Then, kind of surprised that she said that, she says it again, “I like you. Do you like me?” Kiptyn answered positively and without a doubt, “yes.” Jillian said she can’t even process what he’s saying because she can’t stop looking at him because he’s so cute. There was A LOT of snuggling and kissing going on! I think she likes kissing him the best.

Next, Jillian pulls aside Reid, the realtor. Reid shares where he pictures himself five years down the road, with a family and kids. Jillian asked Reid who has a girlfriend, and he told her no one has a girlfriend, and then joked with her that lots of them have girlfriends. Kind of weird!

Jillian likes Ed, the technology consultant (pictured) but feels like he’s distant from her and from the other guys. She says she doesn’t know how to read him. He shares that he had a conference call from his boss that morning and his boss gave him an ultimatum about either coming back to work immediately or lose his job. Ed tells the producers that if Jillian gave him the indicators that she felt strongly for him, he would give up his career. Jillian decides to give the group rose to Ed and tells him to decide whether he wants to keep the rose or give it back in a couple days. Jillian says she will understand if he has to go home.

For the one-on-one date with Jesse (pictured) , Jillian takes him up on a ski plane and they fly to and land on a glacier. Jillian and Jesse run around and play in the untouched snow, then sit down to talk. Jesse tells Jillian that regardless of what happens, he will remember her forever. Jillian tells the producers that when he said that, it gave her butterflies in her stomach.

Later on at dinner, Jillian asks Jesse if he thinks it’s too soon to get together with someone. Jesse took his time in answering, but he finally said that it wasn’t working for a while, and he just hung on to the relationship for longer than he should have. Jillian was shocked when Jesse told her that he doesn’t talk to his ex at all anymore. Jesse asks Jillian if she is willing to leave Vancouver. She surprises him by saying that she doesn’t want the person she falls in love with to move to Vancouver. She wants to put her life in someone else’s hands and try to make her business in another city. Jesse scores more points by complimenting Jillian on her voice. They end the night in the hot tub. Jillian and Jesse each look so happy with each other. Jillian says her and Jesse have major sparks.

Before the rose ceremony, Ed tells Jillian that he has to leave so he can go back to his job. This of course hurts Jillian. She wishes he would have thought about this before he signed up for the show. She really liked him. In a weird twist, Ed says he doesn’t want to give the rose back because he doesn’t think anyone else should have it. Jillian says that she wants him to promise that when he does find the girl he’s crazy about, to not let work get in the way. Jillian is left wondering if she is good enough for somebody to sacrifice their career for her.

Jillian decides that she doesn’t need a cocktail party, and since Ed kept his rose even though he left, only one more guy has to go home. Jillian sends Mark the pizza guy home. She says he never once said that he liked her or that he wanted to say.

Teasers for next week’s episode show overnight dates and hints that one of the guys wasn’t able to, ahem… “perform” and shows Jillian crying about that. I know the producers like to trick us, so I’m anxious to see what really goes on.

Pioneer Woman's Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie

I wasn't going to make this pie, even though I LOVE chocolate and peanut butter, due to the fact that I know I would it all, and that's not really in line with the Weight Watchers plan. But I forgot that I had a potluck to attend today so I made it. The recipe is on Pioneer Woman's Cooking site. Now, don't continue reading if you don't want to know the Weight Watchers Points value of 1/12 of this pie...Here's your last chance...it's 10 points for 1/12 of the pie!!! I only ate one delicious piece at the potluck and only had to bring 2 pieces back home with me. My Little Guy ate one piece and I'll eat the other piece tomorrow. I even made the crust with Wheat-free Oreos!
Photography note: my yellow posterboard got ruined from photographing my lemon bars on it. So I had to use blue posterboard for this pie, and I'm not the happiest with the result. Off to Joann's to get more yellow!

Bakerella's Lemon Bars

I was really inspired by Bakerella's pictures of her Lemon Bars. The pictures she takes of her sweet confections are really professional looking, and I read on Pioneer Woman's site that Bakerella uses the automatic function on her camera (which is really easy to do, no special tricks or knowledge required). So I wanted to see if I could create really good dessert photos too, and I'm happy with my results. Of course this task required that I make and eat the Lemon Bars - I know, it's a tough life. Actually, I've only eaten 2 of these little nummies because I am counting my points. And I will save the rest for the company we're having over tomorrow. Oh yeah, I made these with my wheat-free flour and they are just as delicious as the regular version.
